Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sticks plus 2 tablespoons butter, softened (9 ounces)
  • 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, 13 1/2 ounces
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups chocolate chunks

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375 F.
  2. Grease baking sheets or line with parchment paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla until well blended.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, and soda. Stir or whisk to blend thoroughly.
  6. With the mixer on low speed, add the flour mixture and mix until well blended. Fold the chocolate chunks into the batter.
  7. Drop by heaping teaspoon or small cookie scoop onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between cookies.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cookies are set and lightly browned around edges.
  9. Makes 4 to 5 dozen cookies, depending on size.
