New England Johnny Cake

This New England style sweetened cornbread is great with beans or a hearty soup.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes
- Heat the oven to 400 F.
- Sift flour with baking soda, salt, and sugar. Stir in cornmeal. Combine eggs, vinegar, milk, and shortening. Add to dry ingredients and stir just until dry ingredients are moist.
- Turn into a greased 8-inch square baking pan.
- Bake at 400 F for 30 to 35 minutes.
